We made the trip from South Dakota specifically to see this veterinary ophthalmology team for our dog’s eye ulcer, and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. The doctors (all 3 doctors were hands on with her and they all knew her case) and staff were extremely knowledgeable, clear in their explanations, and proactive in treatment. They provided detailed instructions and closely monitored her progress. What truly sets them apart is their dedication — they communicated with us after hours when we had concerns and performed check-ins to make sure she was improving. Their level of care and professionalism is exceptional. We highly recommend them to anyone needing specialized eye care for their pet.🤍

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If your pet has an eye issue, don’t waste time bouncing around — go straight to Apex Ophthalmology. Get in front of a true specialist team. My six year old French bulldog Kodak had a non-healing eye ulcer that took us through multiple vets, months of stress, and unnecessary expense before we finally found Apex Ophthalmology. The moment we did, the difference was obvious. Dr. Tanja Nuhsbaum and her team are incredible — deeply knowledgeable, calm, confident, and genuinely compassionate. We had multiple checkups, thorough exams, and clear explanations every step of the way. I always understood what was happening, what we were watching for, and exactly what the plan was. And her entire team is just as impressive. Scheduling was easy, follow-ups were consistent, and communication was above-and-beyond. They even texted me after hours to help find alternative medication options when something wasn’t available or was too expensive. That level of care is rare. Highly recommend this office! I became concerned about a pigment in my cat’s eye and was able to get an appointment here the same week. Dr. Gearhart examined my cat and shared her concerns, and even followed up with me a couple of weeks later after discussing the case with her colleagues. She made sure to answer all of my questions, go over all of the options, and explained things in a way that made sense. We ultimately decided to remove the eye and the staff took such great care of my kitty! I so appreciate Dr. Gearhart’s expertise and care for Oliver.

Our pup was having trouble with one of his eyes and we got referred to Apex. He had glaucoma and they were very good about explaining our options and were so very kind to Frodo! He is a very skittish and scared dog and does not like being around a lot of people. They were so gentle and very understanding and took great care of him! We had to have his eye removed and they did an excellent job all around! Wonderful people who really know what they're doing!!

We are beyond grateful for the exceptional care we received at APEX Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialists. Our 8-year-old Boston Terrier, Ellie, was diagnosed with a hereditary eye disease that would eventually lead to blindness. Our regular veterinarian recommended that we see a veterinary ophthalmologist, and finding Dr. Tanja Nuhsbaum at APEX was truly a blessing. From our very first visit, Dr. Nuhsbaum took the time to explain Ellie’s condition in a clear and compassionate way. She helped us understand what would happen if we chose not to treat it, including the pain Ellie would experience from frequent eye ulcerations. She also carefully explained how surgery could correct the problem. At no point did we feel pressured—she simply gave us the information we needed to make the best decision for our dog. We ultimately decided to move forward with surgery on both eyes. While the procedure is not inexpensive, it was absolutely worth every penny. Two weeks ago, Ellie had her surgery, followed by two weeks of wearing a cone, taking medications, and having restricted activity. Today, Ellie’s eyes are healthy again, and she is completely back to her happy, normal self. Seeing her comfortable and pain-free is priceless. We are incredibly thankful to Dr. Nuhsbaum and the entire APEX staff. They genuinely care about every animal and treat them with kindness, patience, and love. Their professionalism and compassion made a stressful situation so much easier. We would recommend APEX over and over again to anyone who needs specialized eye care for their pet. They truly changed Ellie’s life—and ours—for the better.
