We cannot say enough good things about Veterinary Specialty Center. From start to finish, the entire experience was outstanding. Dr. Robbins was absolutely wonderful, and every single person we interacted with from the front desk staff, to the coordinators, techs, and doctors, was kind, professional, and genuinely compassionate. Communication was exceptional at every step of the process. Everything was thoroughly explained in a way that made us feel informed, comfortable, and confident in the care Mona was receiving. We never felt rushed or left in the dark, and it was clear how much the entire team truly cares. We were also incredibly grateful for how quickly they were able to get us in, especially during a stressful time. Their efficiency and empathy made a huge difference for our family. Thank you to Dr. Robbins and the entire VSC team for going above and beyond. We are so appreciative of the care and compassion you showed us and Mona.

My kitten needed emergency surgery after an xray at her vet showed she swallowed something metal like a battery. Staff was thorough and clear in communication on next steps, costs, potential complications, permission before handing her to a very skilled surgeon and team. They also were very tuned into her emotional needs as a tiny kitten in the ICU and kept her in a quiet area and well attended. The surgeon Dr. Kienitz and the surgical intern Dr. Sirr were excellent. Her waiting for surgery, just home and one week out.

January 31st: Brought our puppy in she had mucus coming out of her privates. We booked an appointment and walked in, waited a long time. The doctor came out and said “well she has no signs of an ear infection”. My mom and I were like are you talking about our dog? We had already stated why she was there, not sure why they thought they were treating an ear infection. We told her the symptoms and how in pain she was. The doctor brought her back, looked at her for not even five minutes, and brought her back to us saying she had vaginitis. Didn’t do blood work, ultrasound, nothing. Just assumed she had vaginitis. She was being treated for this. This was malpractice. The weekend goes by, and we brought her to my vet in Lincolnshire because she was getting worse and worse. He said if we waited any longer she would have went into septic. She was misdiagnosed completely. Our doc in Lincolnshire knew what was happening right away. Her blood count cells were very very bad. She had emergency surgery. They could not believe this happened. She almost died. We have brought our passed pups to Bannockburn. One was an 8 week year old pup we had to put down because she had lepto. We had an amazing experience with this location. So when we brought our new pup in with these symptoms, we trusted these doctors to take care of us after all the trauma we went through in the past. We’ve spent tens thousands of dollars here. However, after this experience, we will no longer be returning.

I was referred to the Veterinary Specialty Center by my local veterinarian when they found my cat had a mass in her stomach and an elevated white blood cell count. I was able to get her seen that same day. Every single person and doctor I dealt with here was so nice and caring. I felt so relieved that I knew my cat was in good hands. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer and started on steroids and chemotherapy at the end of November. I saw them do everything they could for her to make sure she was comfortable and giving her the best treatment. After no change with the current chemotherapy medications, they changed the drugs she was on, and still, she was not improving. But I could see they cared about her as much as I did. I will definitely be taking any of my pets needing a higher level of care that my local vet cannot provide here again.

I had two cats diagnosed with different cancers nearly simultaneously. One of them, multiple myeloma which infiltrated his spine causing hind limb paralysis. At our initial consult with Dr. Feinmehl, I told her my goal was to buy Leo as much happy time as I could. When the original protocol would have severely detracted from his overall quality of life and the safety of my two toddlers at home, Dr Feinmehl was open to a pie-in-the-sky alternative I found. We tried that, Leo could walk again, and we had a beautiful summer during which he could just be Leo. Under Dr Feinmehl’s care, Leo had 7 happy months when his initial prognosis was 7 or fewer days. And now as I sit here with him on his last day, I feel profound gratitude amidst the total devastation. I know she will do everything possible for my other cat as we navigate the effects of his cancer treatments. From the very beginning, Leanne, the oncology vet tech, held my hand through the whole process. She loved my cat and I knew every time I left him at the hospital, my boy was doted on and cared for by the most gentle soul and earthly angel there is. I don’t know what more I can say about Leanne but she is such a loving, kind person. There is nobody else I could imagine holding my hand as I walked down this path with my beloved boy. Everyone at VSC provided amazing, compassionate care, not just to my cats, but to me as well. The doctors would sit on the floor in the er exam rooms with me so I could hold my boy and look them in the eyes. The front desk people always greeted me with sensitivity and calmness. Every vet tech was gentle and so kind to my boy it made me want to cry. I will always be so grateful for everything VSC gave my cats as well as my family. Every single one of them is doing heroic work and even when they witness unspeakable pain of people losing precious pets on a daily basis, they never made me feel like my grief and loss were one of many. I was always treated with dignity and was made to feel like my case and my cat was special and unique. I know they gave him everything possible up to the last day when they told me it was time. I’m angry at the universe for taking my little boy away from me far too soon but I am and always will be so deeply and profoundly grateful for his team who gave me and my family the precious gift of time to love our boy and say goodbye.
